BMW Motorcycle Brake Lines

Brake lines are an integral part of the hydraulic disc brake system in a BMW motorcycle. Essentially, they're multilayer hoses. Originally they were made out of rubber, but now are typically inner-lined with Teflon and surrounded by a reinforcing layer made out of braided nylon, Kevlar, or stainless-steel, wrapped in a protective sheath.

What Brake Lines Do

What they do is pressurize brake fluid, sending it from the master brake cylinder to the brake calipers. The latter press the brake pads installed on them to a corresponding brake rotor. This generates create friction -- the resistance your bike needs to slow down and come to a complete stop.
